But what we love most about the Tourneau TimeMachine is the wide range of watches available. The 57th Street flagship boasts more than 8,000 styles from nearly 100 watch brands, and the store’s selection of Rolex, Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin and Longines is unrivaled.

Besides its extensive selection of watches, Tourneau also stocks its own lines (Baume & Mercier, Baume & Mercier Classics, Baume & Mercier Moderne), as well as a variety of vintage and used timepieces. It also has an extensive pre-owned section, and offers both in-store and online service.

The company’s recent acquisition by Swiss watch manufacturer and retail chain Bucherer has seen the retailer reimagine its New York flagship, which previously operated as the TimeMachine. The renovated, 18,379-square-foot super-boutique features a redesigned entrance that focuses on Bucherer 1888’s branding.

Its glass counters have been swapped for other displays, such as a 20-foot-long artisan-made marble table and a projection system that shows clocks and other content where the old main clock once sat. The new space also features an elevated lounge and display area for the Bucherer Fine Jewelry collection, the first of its kind in the US.

While most of the shop is dedicated to displaying the latest Rolex releases, they do have a number of older models on display as well. There is also a small section dedicated to pre-owned Rolex models, which is very interesting to see.

Another highlight of Wempe’s New York flagship is the dazzling window displays that span the entirety of their Fifth Avenue windows. This gives visitors a chance to get up close to a slew of impressively designed timepieces and is an especially appealing option for those visiting from abroad.

Aside from their impressive display cases, Wempe is also a prominent advocate for sustainable and conflict-free diamond trade. The brand has an extensive database of diamond suppliers and offers a comprehensive selection of ethically sourced gemstones for their customers to choose from.

The German-based company’s new Iron Walker series takes an elemental approach to the integrated bracelet sports watch, presenting a streamlined case design in four case styles. The core 40 mm Iron Walker Automatic Chronograph, 42 mm Iron Walker Automatic Diver, and 36 mm Iron Walker Women’s all share a similar design, but offer their own twists on the basic integrated bracelet case.

Despite the growing popularity of wearable tech, many industry insiders are still skeptical that it will eat into the sales of high-end watches. Jason Alan Snyder, chief technology officer at global branding agency Momentum Worldwide, says he’s tested out a number of smartwatches but continues to prefer a modern Rolex Datejust his father gave him.

He believes Millennials, who prefer sleek, clean lines over complicated watches, will continue to be loyal to the brands they love. But he’s also wary of the potential for the Apple Watch to disrupt the traditional luxury watch market, which has always been dominated by Swiss makers.
